Even when appliance breakdown isn’t imminent, clean and routinely serviced machines work more efficiently, translating to lower energy bills. But during an economic downturn, when essential home appliances are more or less running smoothly, people cut or cut back on maintenance. For Black Hills Energy, this situation materialized as low sign-ups and high attrition for Service Guard, its appliance service and energy conservation education program. How could the company bring them back?
